History of Blue Forest Petrified Wood
50 million years ago, Central Wyoming, USA, was the site of ancient Lake Gosiute during the Early Eocene. Lake Gosiute was a large body of water surrounded by subtropical forest. Lake level rises episodically drowned the adjacent forests, causing standing trees and fallen branches to become growth sites for algae and cyanobacteria, which encased submerged wood with a thick coating of algae making a cast or mold around the wood.  Later the wood dried and shrunk in the mold made of algae.
Over time these algae casts became part of a layered rock formation.   Silica-rich water solutions seeping through the rock then petrified the wood and filled in the spaces left between the dried wood and the hardened cast with agate, calcite, chalcedony, and quartz.
As the agate coated the inside surface of the algae cast, perfect impressions of the bark were left in the agate.  Worm holes, insect borings, woodpecker holes, and other events have been observed in the petrified wood.
Blue forest petrified wood is one of the most unique and, yet, diverse types of petrified wood that exist.  Eden Valley Petrified Wood exhibits features not found in fossil wood anywhere else in the world.
You will also find botryoidal features (from the Greek, meaning bunches of grapes!), refers to tiny crystals occurring in closely interlocking spherical masses or "bubbles" which often look like bunches of grapes.  Acicular or fibrous crystals grow radially around the nuclei at the same rate, appearing as spheres. Eventually, these spheres abut or overlap with those that are nearby. These nearby spheres are then fused together to form the botryoidal cluster.
    Healing Properties of Petrified Wood
Petrified wood were revered in the past as they were thought to contain the knowledge from the tree that they were created from.  Ancient people thought these stones had magical qualities.
This was possibly due to the reverence that real trees held within many cultures. Petrified Wood was once an ancient, living, breathing tree.   It is created naturally in the earth from ancient trees that became fossilized over a very long period.
Petrified wood is good for grounding and stabilizing one's emotions. The earth energies present in this stone will calm your nerves and ease your fears.  It will fill you with feelings of security, stability, and well-being.  Petrified Wood is an ideal stone for meditation because it will guide you in knowing what?s important and what?s not. It helps one be practical.
