This nice piece is from
private land in NE Arizona
in the American South West, the only region in the world that produces such vivid colors in petrified wood. It is
5" x 2.25" x 2.5"
and weighs
1.75 pounds
. As you see in the photos, there is
bark
along one side which is a big deal in petrified wood circles. It is from the Triassic Period of the Mesozoic Era, a time when dinosaurs roamed the area. This was once part of a live evergreen tree called
araucaria
which lived about
200 million years ago
