in the American South West, the only region in the world that produces such vivid colors in petrified wood. They are

. They are from the Triassic Period of the Mesozoic Era, a time when dinosaurs roamed the area. These beauties were once part of a live evergreen tree called
araucaria
and lived approximately
200 million years ago

shot wet,
to show the colors available with polishing. (While the colors you see on your monitor may vary somewhat, I have tried to present them as accurately as possible.)
